Leven Links Golf Course

Leven Links Golf Course Scotland

Leven Links is another course also located along the Fife Coastal trail and has records of playing golf there dating back to the early 1800’s. In fact, it is thought to be the first golf course to have 18 separate greens and teeing grounds. Leven has also hosted local final qualifying events when The Open Championship was taken place at The Old Course, St Andrews.

A Brief History of Golf Course Leven Links

Founded in 1820, Leven Links is one of the oldest courses in Scotland. It was designed by Old Tom Morris, a legendary golf course designer who also played a major role in the development of the game of golf. The course has undergone several changes over the years, with notable redesigns by James Braid and Harry Colt.

The course is a traditional Scottish links-style course, with a challenging layout that is sure to test even the most experienced golfers. It measures 6,475 yards from the back tees, with a par of 71. The course features a variety of hazards, including deep bunkers, undulating fairways, and tricky greens.

One of the highlights of the course is the eponymous "Scoonie". Few people will complete the 18th hole in two since it is 456 yards away and almost certainly into the wind. Your second shot also demands a strong carry over the unusual Scoonie Burn, which winds around the front and right sides of the green and is protected on the far side by wooden sleepers. The green itself is a spectacular, sloping structure that is directly in the clubhouse windows' shade. Unquestionably one of the most impressive finishing holes in Scottish golf.
