A Brief History of Dundonald Golf Links

Dundonald Links Course was designed by golf course architect Kyle Phillips in 2003. It was built on land that was once a farm and later an army training ground. In 2005, the course opened for play and quickly gained a reputation for being a challenging but enjoyable course.

The course was purchased by Loch Lomond Golf Club in 2008, and it has since become a highly regarded golf destination. It has hosted numerous prestigious golf events, including the European Tour's Scottish Open in 2017.

The Dundonald Links Course covers a vast area of over 200 acres, and it is designed to test golfers of all abilities. The course features large undulating greens, wide fairways, and strategically placed bunkers and hazards. The course layout is a mix of inland and links-style holes, with stunning views of the Ayrshire coastline and the Firth of Clyde. The course's par is 72, with a total length of over 7,100 yards from the championship tees. A challenging course that is home to some tricky par 3’s and testing par 5’s, it will last long in memories for years to come but hopefully for the right reasons!

Facilities and Amenities at Dundonald Golf Links

One of the great features at Dundonald is the luxury accommodation and dining facilities. They offer stunning 2-6 bedroom lodges and single rooms, and a fantastic restaurant called the Canny Crow which offers a lot more than your usual pub grub. The clubhouse even has its own whisky-tasting room with over 100 whiskeys for you to sample. Well worth a visit!
The pro shop offers a range of golf equipment and apparel, as well as golf carts and 36 electric trolleys. For those looking to improve their golf game, the course offers golf lessons and clinics, led by experienced golf professionals and caddies can also be hired here. The course also has a practice range, putting green, and a short game area, where golfers can warm up before their round or work on their game.

Membership at Dundonald Golf Links

When Dundonald was bought over by Darwin Ltd from Loch Lomond Golf Club in 2019 the decision was soon made to end memberships at the course. This was bought into effect at the end of 2020 when the £20m renovation project began for the new clubhouse and lodges.

Where is Dundonald Golf Links?

Dundonald is located in South Ayrshire, Scotland. If you’re driving, you can take the A78 towards Troon and then turn onto the B746 towards Dundonald. The journey takes about 20 minutes from Troon and about 35 minutes from Glasgow.

If you’re taking public transportation, you can take the train to Troon or Irvine and then take a taxi or bus to Dundonald. The X16 and 585 buses stop in Dundonald, so you can check the schedules to see which one works best for you.
