A Brief History of The Golf House Club Elie

The Golf House Club Elie was founded in 1875, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in Scotland. The majority of historians claim that Old Tom Morris, one of the most famous golf course designers of his time, designed the present layout in 1895. Over the years, the course has undergone several renovations and updates, while still retaining its classic links character. Today, the Golf House Club Elie is a thriving golf club, with a loyal membership and a reputation as one of the best golfing destinations in Scotland.

Course Design at Elie Golf House Club

The Golf House Club Elie is a traditional links course, set in the stunning coastal landscape of the Firth of Forth. The course is known for its challenging layout, with narrow fairways, deep bunkers, and fast greens that require precise shot-making skills. The par-70 course measures 6,273 yards from the championship tees, with a variety of holes that test every aspect of a golfer's game. In particular the first hole and one of Elie's signature holes is a blind tee shot. However, a periscope that was removed from HMS Excalibur is used to look over the hill to make sure the group in front is well out of the way. Midway through your round, you can also enjoy sea views across to Edinburgh on a clear day. Elie has no Par 5's and only 2 Par 3's but the 16 Par 4's on the course offer. Therefore the course offers much variety and enjoyment to all golfers. The course features classic links-style elements, such as natural dunes, heather, and gorse, and offers stunning views of the surrounding coastline.
