One of Scotland’s Golf Coast's unsung heroes, this cliff-top golf course enjoys stunning views and allows play all year round with greens and tees always in play. The Glen Golf Club, which is tucked away in the lovely East Lothian countryside, is a truly hidden treasure. This club is a must-visit for any golf enthusiast with a tough course, breathtaking scenery, and welcoming hospitality.
A Brief History of The Glen Golf Club
Although a nine-hole course did not exist until 1894, golf was initially played on the East Links in North Berwick in the 17th century. James Braid, a five-time Open Champion, and Ben Sayers, one of his design partners, expanded it to 18 holes in 1906.
The Glen Golf Club has a rich history spanning over a century and has undergone several changes over the years to become the exceptional course it is today.
Course Design at The Glen Golf Club
The Glen Golf Club boasts a stunning 18-hole, par-71 course that offers a challenging yet rewarding round for golfers of all levels. Men can play off the medal tees which are 6,275 yards (Par 70), while women can play off them at 5,773 yards (Par 73).
The 12th is named ‘Bass Rock' and is the ideal hole for a longest-drive competition. Following on from the 12th is one of the most striking features of the course, the signature 13th ‘Sea Hole'. This blind par 3 hugs the Scottish coastline and has been compared to the likes of Pebble Beach or Cypress Point. With the North Sea on one side and a challenging green on the other, this hole is a true test of skill and nerve.
