Boat of Garten Golf Club Scotland

Nestled between the Cairngorms and the Strathspey Railway is the charming course at Boat of Garten. Running alongside the River Spey, you will find “The Boat” a well-known hidden gem that is a really fun day of golf! If you are interested in a delightful course that is surrounded by some of the greatest views that the Scottish Highlands has to offer then please read on.

A Brief History of Boat of Garten Golf Club Scotland

The Club is located in the Scottish Highlands, and it was founded in 1898. The course has been designed by some of the most renowned golf course architects in history, including Scotland's own five-time Open champion, James Braid. He was asked to convert the original 9-hole layout to an 18-hole course in 1930 which soon opened for play 2 years later. Over the years several holes have been altered to add some par 5's and during the last 10 years, the clubhouse, pro shop, locker rooms, lounge and bar have all been modernised.

Course Design at Golf Club Boat of Garten

This relatively short 5,900-yard, par-70 course is not one that you require to have superhuman strength to appreciate. Instead, accuracy is required because if you stray too far from the fast-moving fairways, bushes, trees, and rough can all come into play.

Showcasing its quirkiness straight away, Boat of Garten starts with a par 3, which is always challenging early in the round, then a short par four, where the breathtaking views truly start to get your attention.

The par 4 6th hole, known as "Avenue," will stay with you for a long time! The fairway is firmly flanked by birch and pine trees as the hole doglegs to the right. Cutting the dogleg short is risky, but if you lay up, you'll have a 200-yard approach shot to a tricky green.

The fairways are lined by birch trees, heather and broom, making this beautiful course a challenge for golfers. However, it is certainly a beautiful challenge worth taking on if staying in the Highlands of Scotland!
