Western Gailes Golf Club and Courses

Western Gailes Golf Club is a links course located on the west coast of Scotland, in Ayrshire. Although it is one of the less well-known courses in the area, it is recognised as one of the top links courses in the nation. Gary Player, Tom Watson, and Tony Jacklin, three legends from the latter part of the twentieth century, have all played here. From the present era, Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, and Bubba Watson have also put their skills to the test on this historic links course.

A Brief History of Western Gailes Golf Club Scotland

The Club was founded in 1897 and has a long history of hosting important championships. The course has undergone several changes over the years, including a major redesign by Fred Hawtree in 1976. It has since been updated by Martin Ebert and is now a challenging and scenic course that attracts golfers from all over the world.

The course is a traditional links layout with challenging natural features, including dunes and deep bunkers. It measures just over 7,000 yards from the back tees and has a par of 71. The first few holes are played northward, followed by nine holes played backwards, with the sea to the golfer's right. The memorable 17th hole, one of Scotland's most difficult par 4s, is part of the final five holes.
