Founded in 1787 by The Glasgow Golf Club, Gailes Links is the 9th Oldest Course in the world. Designed by Willie Fernie and then tweaked by Willie Park Jnr. These two have put their names to some of the greatest courses in the world. Consequently Gailes Links Golf Course is one of those fun courses you want to play again and again. Its one of those courses that require laser guided tee shots with out of bounds, bunkers, whins, gorse bushes, and trees to contend with throughout the course. The putting surfaces are always exceptional and very subtle that trick even the world's best. Gailes Links is a fair course that rewards you for your hard work. In contrast, it also punishes the slackers. Furthermore, the course is often used as a qualifying venue for The Open Championship when the event is held at Royal Troon or Trump Turnberry.

A Brief History of Gailes Links Golf Course

The Glasgow Golf Club, Gailes Links, was established in 1787 and is the ninth oldest golf club in the world. Designed by Willie Fernie, the club originally played on Glasgow Green before moving to Alexandra Park in the east end of Glasgow. The current course, Gailes Links, was opened in 1912 and re-designed by Willie Park Jr, a two-time winner of the Open Championship. These two have put their names to some of the greatest courses in the world!

Since then, the course has undergone several improvements and renovations while maintaining its traditional links-style layout.

Since 1973, Gailes Links has served as a final qualifying venue for the Open Championship. In addition, it has hosted events like The Home Internationals, the Europe v. USA Palmer Trophy, the Scottish PGA Championship, the Scottish Amateur Championship, and the Scottish Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship to name but a few. From 2014 to 2017 the only Final Open Qualifying course in Scotland was Gailes Links which says a great deal about the quality you will find here.

The clubhouse at The Glasgow Golf Club, Gailes Links is a beautiful building that was constructed in 1912. It offers golfers a range of facilities, including a restaurant and a bar with additional seating on the outdoor terrace. Membership at Gailes Links

To gain membership at Glasgow Golf Club, Gailes Links you require a proposal by a current member which needs to be seconded by another member. This application has to be supported by a further 6 members and you would be placed on a waiting list for the sister course at Killermontin Bearsden also.

Where is Gailes Links Golf Course ?

The Glasgow Golf Club, Gailes Links is located in Irvine, North Ayrshire, on the west coast of Scotland. It is easily accessible by road, rail, and air. If you are travelling by car, you can reach the club via the M8, M77, and M74 motorways. The club has ample parking facilities for visitors. If you are travelling by train, Irvine station is the closest, and it is only a few minutes drive from the club. If you are arriving by air, Glasgow Airport is the closest, and it is roughly a 30-minute drive from the club.
